Sid Meier's Civilization

A series of video games developed by Sid Meier and Bruce Shelley at MicroProse and released in September 1991. The game belongs to the turn-based strategy genre and combines 4X, grand strategy, wargame and open world elements.

Civilization was developed for DOS and later ported to Windows, Macintosh, Amiga, Atari ST, PlayStation and Super Nintendo. In 2002, Eagle Games released Civilization as a board game. In 2005, Atari released a version for the N-Gage smartphone.

The game mechanics are based on the simulation of several simple systems that are transparent to the player, such as economic, diplomatic, military and scientific ones. The player manages them under conditions of limited resources, which can be directed through various game mechanics to construction in cities, research of new technologies and improving the well-being of the population.

In 2012, Time magazine named the game one of the 100 greatest games of all time.
